No TV Tuner under MMC 8.8...known issue?

C

Chris Lemon

When I install MMC 8.8 and try to run the TV Tuner on my AIW 9600 Pro under
XP Pro it acts as if the tuner doesn't exist...it takes me through the Video
In Configuration Wizard and runs a Video In app, instead of the TV Tuner. If
I uninstall that and install MMC 8.7 everything works fine. This is with the
very most recent Catalyst drivers.

Is this a known issue with MMC 8.8 and this card? I just wanna make sure I'm
not alone here and it's not something I'm doing wrong. I don't _think_ it
is.

I had no probs with the tv tuner (8500dv) in MMC8.8, but guide+ would
always say there was no tuner. I reinstalled and fiddled for 2 days
before saying F* it, and went back to MMC8.6

Interesting. Yeah, neither one works for me, but both work like a champ in
8.7, so I'm rolling with that until I can find out more.

make sure you ininstall and reinstall the multimedia drivers correctly.
You have to go to control panel device manager, and unselect the 6
devices under sound video and game.
then reboot.

proper sequence is WDM drivers,(no reboot)then display drivers, depending
on if you used the all in one driver package.

if your just getting static and noise when you click on the tv button just
uninstall the ATI WDM TV TUNER under sound video and game controllers.then
click the add hardware wizard button.should find the tuner and reinstall the
drivers and work fine.mine would do that when i went back and forth from
8.6-8.8 .reason unknown but i know this works to fix it on my computer.BOB

It is a known issue if you have a PAL TV tuner. Look at these:
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4254.html
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4265.html

It is a major screwup by M$ in their DX9.0b version. They changed
something in the TV tuner support and hosed PAL...
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q825116

They have a hotfix above but in many countries that does not work
either. Possible fixes are (if the hotfix does not work):
1) Get kstvtune.ax file from DX9.0a and replace DX9.0b version with that
(somewhat complicated thing to do - you have to boot in safe mode or
otherwise disable windows file protection or fiddle with hotfix
uninstall...)
2) Try other country settings
3) Try older WDM capture drivers (some people have got it working this way)

I did not try this. I will do so now, and report back. Thanks for the
suggestion!

You, sir, are THE MAN. This is exactly what the doctor ordered. I'm up and
running under MMC 8.8 with no problems now. They tell you to make sure the
previous MMC is uninstalled, but they say nothing of the drivers. :) Now I
know for the future. :)

Thanks again very much! :)

Normally you dont have to uninstall reinstall the wdm and display drivers
when upgrading MMC, BUT you experienced a problem, thats why I suggested
the reinstall.

Wahooo! Thanks!!! I tried *everything* to get my Hercules 9800SE AIW
to display TV. I updated drivers, tried all sorts of versions of MMC,
all sorts of tricks with uninstalling drivers and letting the New
Hardware wizard detect things. But whatever I tried, TV just plain
didn't work. When I clicked the TV button, it just displayed the Video
In app, and wouldn't let me set any TV settings, watch TV, etc.

I'm in the UK - (using the PAL system) BTW.

I applied the hotfix, and voila! Everything's now fine.
