No Sounds in Windows XP

D

Dr. Vince Pearson

Greetings!

A simple question for us today.

My system sounds (e.g. new mail in Outlook, device connect when PDA is
hotsynced, etc.) do not play when I configure them and perform a restart. I
fear that something has corrupted the sound files. Playing the sounds as
tests works fine though, just not when applications are running.

Any suggestions?

All the best,

If they play OK when tested, the sound files are not corrupted.
How do you install and test the sound files? In Control Panle/Sounds and
Audio devices/Sounds make sure you save any new sound scheme with a
different name from the Windows Default - might be that the default Windows
Scheme is loaded at boot - even though it should save the changes.

See "Where did my sounds go?" on MVP Kelly Theriot's site here:

BTW, don't put your real, unmunged email address on Usenet or
messageboards. It will get harvested by spambots. Here's a link
explaining that:

Fix the ding wave file may help.

Also,if you have TweakIU installed check the "general" tab and be sure that
"beep on errors" has a check in the box.
