No Sound

XP Home system, Intergraded sound on MB. Stopped working after installing
web-cam. Removed web-cam and software and reinstalled the audio drivers.
Windows loads hardware with old drivers and states everything is working. Go
into the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties but the Sound Playback does not
list the hardware as available and all options are greyed out. I have removed
and reloaded drivers in the hardware section several times but still no sound.

Thanks

Hi David,

http://www.tune-up.com/

Go to the above link. Download, if you already don't have it, TuneUp
Utilities 2006. It is a Full Feature Not Crippled Program, which includes a
Windows Registry Cleaner. Uninstall your Software again. Reboot.
Use Explore and remove all files Not in use and sub-folders of
C:\Windows\Temp and within your User ID.
C:\Documents and Settings\David\Local Settings\Temp

Now empty your Recycle Bin. After you install TuneUp Utilites 2006, Run
the TuneUp Disk Cleaner first, then run the TuneUp Windows Registry Cleaner.
All changes made with the Registry Cleaner can be undone.

The trick is to carefully read before using.

After you finish running it, reboot the computer. Now reinstall your
Sound Drivers.

By the way, what Sound Drivers are you installing? What is the Sound
Chip?

Ok, completed the Tuneup program and went to the SystemMax web site and got
the recommended drivers for the VIA AC97 Audio Controller. Still no luck with
it finding the hardware. Isn't there registry keys that can be deleted and
will force windows to reinstall drivers again?

Hi David,

Start > Right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click Hardware then
click Device Manager. Scroll down and expand Sound, video and game
controllers. Scroll down and double-click VIA AC97 Audio Device to see the
Properties of the Device. Click Driver. Here you got choices. Update Driver,
Roll Back Driver and Uninstall.

You can try to Update the Driver, first and see if that works. Or try
starting fresh and choose to Uninstall the device. Reboot and go into Safe
Mode. In Safe Mode, don't install from Safe Mode, but check to make sure no
other Audio Devices for the AC97 Audio Device is listed. If listed,
uninstall and reboot.

See if Windows will find the drivers now. Remember simply downloading
the drivers and unzipping them means nothing.

For me. I download the drivers and save them in the Briefcase on the
Desktop. Then if zipped, I use WinZip and extract them to a seperate folder
off of the C:\ Drive and under C:\Unzipped\..

When Windows searches for the drivers, if you don't have a Setup or
Installer program, I point Windows towards C:\Unzipped\Ac97 as an example.
Windows can't find the drivers, if the folder you are using isn't in the
PATH, remember that.
Also make sure that you install the correct drivers for your operating
system.

I had to plug my sound into the "wrong" outlet to get mine to work.
Mine is plugged into the wrong color (play with it & you should hear a
noise) but it works now.
