No Sound

When I went to bed Thursday night , everything seemed to be working right on my computer. Friday morning I was surprised to learn that all the sound was missing, including system sounds. I've tried all the troubleshooting suggestions under the "Help" serction that came with computer, but nothing helps. Bearing in mind that I'm not a very technically-minded person, can someone please help with this problem?
