No sound with RC1/VPC

My Realtex sound HD ALC 882 chipset card is not working code # 28 (Not installed)
Tried to update and reinstall but no drivers were found. I talked to Realtex a while ago and they told me that when RTM
came out they would make the drivers.

Sound in a virtual machine is handled by the emulated sound card and not by
the host sound card directly. Do not install the Realtek drivers in the
virtual machine.

If the host is Vista install the virtual machine additions from the Action
menu on the vm window. This should enable the sound driver. As I recall,
you will not get sound if the host is XP.

Hi Colin,
My host is Win XP MCE so I guess I can't get sound.
Thanks.

If the guest OS is Vista, sound is a problem. The emulated sound card in a
VPC machine is an ISA card and Vista does not support ISA.

The additions that come with VPC 2007 have a workaround to allow sound
in a Vista guest. This works fine for me on an XP SP2 host (Realtek ALC
655). Sound is choppy on a Vista host. (This is a known problem which should
be fixed in the release version of VPC 2007).

Thanks I do have sound now.
I just can't figure out how to play my DVD's. :(

That you may have trouble doing until VPC final. Dvd's are not always
handled correctly in the beta. If you can convert to an image file with
WinImage it would work better. Even then the sound choppiness may be an
issue, again until the final release.

As far as the media is concerned, just insert the dvd in the host drive and
capture the drive by right clicking on the cd icon in the lower left of the
virtual machine window.

I will try this tomorrow. Time to go to bed. ;0(
