Hi again,
My Fiber Optic speed went down to about half the speed.

With RC1/VPC it was Download: 7668 mbps (0.958 MB/sec. transfer rate.)
Upload: 1665 kbps (206.9 KB/sec. transfer rate)

With my regular MCE XP Download: 15145 kbps (1.893 MB/sec. transfer rate)
Upload: 1641 kbps (205.1 KB/sec. transfer rate

Have a good day,

Where do you live and how and from whom did you get fiber
optic access?

correct me if im wrong, but youre using a virtual installation? if thats the
case youre sharing the bandwidth with the physical host, what did you
expect?

Hi,
I live in Reading Massachusetts and got the fiber from Verizon they have two FIOS plans in my area a 5000 kbps and
a 15000 kbps for 35.00 & 45.00 respectively.

Where do you live and how and from whom did you get fiber
optic access?

Sorry, I guess I expected more.
This VPC isn't what I thought it would be. Can't use your own configuration so your not going to get the best results.

Damn!
In NYC Verizon does not even offer residential fiber, and 1.5 mbps DSL is $40.00/mo.
Damn!
How's the housing situation in Reading MA?

Thanks,

Good, if your over 65. :)
Verizon is starting a campaign to upgrade the FIOS system. There are a lot of cites here that still only have their DSL
but that is 1.5 & 3.0 mbps.
My cousin has the 3.0 DSL and she pays almost as much as the FIOS 5000 mbps.

I have been amazed at how well VPC 2007 has run.
I have WinXP Pro in a virtual machine running on
Vista, and it's worked beautifully.

I live in rural Oklahoma. Here, it's dial-up or satellite and satellite
absolutely sucks.

So, that's the real reason you don't pirate stuff
off the internet. It would take too damn long. ;-)

Satellite is bi-directional?
Satellite is worse that dial-up?
Satellite must be fairly expensive too.
I have cable at $49.95/mo. They tout 1.5 mbs, NEVER seen that though,
more like 700, at that's on a very rare day.
Seems like the US lags far behind in broadband access among
technologically advanced countries and even a lot of no-so-advanced
countries.
After broadband, dial-up is literally p a i n f u l l y s l o o o o o o o w.

Actually, satellite works pretty well for downloading. I get 2000 kb/s
download speeds. It is browsing or VPN that is practically useless. Each
and every requested file, that includes every image, JavaScript file, etc.
adds another half of a second to a page. Also, I think, the service
providers servers being overloaded (I know they're overloaded because they
won't take any more customers) causes that delay to be perhaps doubled.

The end result is that it takes 5 to 10 seconds for a keystroke on my PC to
pass through to VPN at work and come back to my RDP client here. A page at
NewEgg.com takes up to 2 minutes to load.

Well, 6.5 years ago, George Bush promised, because he was running against Al
Gore, that broadband Internet would be available throughout rural America in
7 years. But I think he forgot us.

Not by a long shot, but does have some painful restrictions. I have a 375mb
per 5 hour period limit. Not much use for a Vista download.
Satellite must be fairly expensive too.
I pay 69.95 per month. I usually do get near 1 mbs.

Sure agree with that.

Best I can get here is 22kbs :-((

That does not mean it is split in half or something. The host is simply
passing the traffic through.
