Deborah

I just had to replace my hard drive on my computer and I
reinstalled windows 2000 professional. Now I can't get any
sound. I need step by step instructions on how to start
sound. I do have a volume control button on taskbar.

Also how do I stop a program from loading on my computer.
(Can not find MSCONFIG).

Also I saved text documents from my computer before the
hard drive crashed and when I tried to reload them,
instead of the words it just put zero's or O's in the text
doc.

Look in device manager to see if the audio device is listed you may have to
reinstall the driver for your audio device. MSconfig isn't in w2k but you
can just copy msconfig.exe from an xp box and copy it to the system32 folder
of your windows 2k box.

SOUND: Tell us about your sound card and your sound drivers and whether
Windows spotted them or not. Exactly what happened--or didn't happen?

MSCONFIG: Go to Microsoft.com and search for "MSCONFIG Windows 2000."
Download and install it and you'll have MSCONFIG.

TEXT: Sounds like the documents are lost. But you could try Recover Text
From File if you have a version of MSFT Word (2002, 2003, ?) that supports
that. It might recover something. You did recently back your documents up to
CD, though, didn't you? :)

Ok under device manager, sound, video and games, it has
Audio Codecs, Creative SB live! Basic (WDM), Game Port for
Creative SB Live!, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media
Control Devices and Video Codecs. So I don't really know
the specific of what you want. Which one do you want to
know the name of the driver?
I had copied the text on a CD Rom before my hard drive
tore up. Then when I tried to load the text on my computer
again after installing Windows 2000 Prof., is when they
came out with the zeroes in them.
I did attempt to do back up when I was having all the
problems and was considering reinstalling Windows XP but
I tried to do backup but that was another thing that was
messing up. No I lost everything that I had on my computer
but the Text docs that I had saved prior to the problems.
I am starting from scratch to get this computer running
again.
