No sound in headphones

I am using SONY MDR-V150 headphones on a Dell computer. I have had these for
over a year, and up to a couple months ago they worked perfectly. My brother
and I both have had the same problem for the same amount of time: all sounds
work fine from the regular speakers, but not when we plug in headphones.
When playing music, you can hear what might be the bass, and none of the rest
of the music. In videos, you can vaguely hear the sound behind lots of
irritating noise. I don't know what the problem is and I was hoping someone
could give me some advice about what to do so I can use my headphones again.

Have you checked the headphones on some other device to hear if they
are still working properly? Maybe you need to get a new set, it sure sounds
like yours are getting ready to "bite the dust". If they do work properly,
check your Audio Properties at the Volume icon next to clock.
