No sound, except for MIDI

I am not getting any sound from anything, except when I play MIDI files in a
media player. I have no idea what do. Please help.

I would say that the default audio device has been set to something that is
either unavailable (removed?) or muted.

Check Control_Panel | Sounds_and_Audio_Devices | Audio |
Sound_playback__Default_device
