No Printer Spooler

H

HoundDawg

I cannot add a printer and I get the message "Operation
could not be completed," and when I hotplug my printer,
it begins to install, but says installation failed "The
RPC server is unavailable." I do not have a Printer
Spooler listed in my Services. I do not know what to do.

Can anyone help me

If Print Spooler is not in the service list I am unsure what to do. There
is some registry info in the KB articles.

No, I do not know how to even delete it from the list of services.

You can download the Windows resource kit and run the cleanspl.exe file.
This tool will delete all printers and drivers on your system and will
cleanup the spooler registry. When prompted, Do NOT remove the Standard
TCP/IP monitor. I do not think this will add the spooler service back to
the list.
The file is about 15MB, extract the file and find the cleanspl.exe file.
Read the prompts as you go.

The windows resource kit did not fix the problem. I
checked my files and the file "spoolsv" is listed under
WinNt..system32. This is the file that runs the printer
spooler, but for some reason it is not listed as a
service. When i try and run the program, nothing happens.

I really need my printer back. Should I ask this
question in another forum? If so, which one?
