No keyboard support at login screen

I have a huge problem and hopefully someone can help.
I have keyboard and mouse support right up to the Windows
2000 Professional login screen and I can't enter the
password to enter.

Can anyone help?
 
I would try a different keyboard, preferably on a different
port (PS/2, USB).
