No fax capabilities using WIndows Fax

I posted this to the other thread about this same sort of
problem, then realized that that thread might not be
viewed again. So here goes:

This is XP on a Gateway box, connected to an Epson CX5400
printer, that does NOT have faxing capabilities.

When I click on File, then Send to Fax Recipient, I get
the Wizard as per normal. When I complete the cover
letter and click on Send Fax Now, it will tell me that
the message has been sent, but no one ever sees it again,
and the Fax Console shows no faxes sent. This is with the
default printer set at both the Epson and the Fax icon.

I should mention, I'm running a DSL modem, so I probably
won't hear the transmission anyway, right?

Indeed you won't because you aren't faxing.
Faxing uses phone lines.
You don't have one.
Many users don't realize that faxing is a function that can only use analog
phone lines and analog fax modems. Accordingly, no fax software will
function with cable modems or DSL lines. With some DSL connections you can
obtain a DSL line filter suitable for connecting a standard analog voice
line to the DSL line and can then connect an analog fax modem to that line.
