no desktop after 10-16-03 updates

I installed, uninstalled and reinstalled 10-16-03 updates
(because they disabled my minolta printer)now my win 2000
pc allows me to log on, and is running (cnt-atl-del shows
task man etc.)but I have no desktop, same in safe mode.
 
if you can get to task manager , start a task called explorer.exe see if
your desk top shows...

what service pack are u using and what kind of machine?
