No cd rom detected?

When I double click My Computer on the desktop it takes forever to load and
show the drives sometimes it doesn't it just shows a flshlight looking and
when it does show the drives theres no cd rom drives "WHY? There in the bios
and hooked up right ,what must I do to fix this?

Do things speed up if....
You power off, disconnect the cables from the CD Drive, power back up and
logon..

If so - it is possible you either have the jumpers on the CD drive set
incorrectly or the CD drive is defective.
