Greetings, Helpful ones,
After removing Vista from one of our machines (Gateway M465E), I
installed Windows XP only to find that there is no audio device
recognized. Gateway issued drivers, are "not compatible". User would
like sound...
NEHlp?

If winxp is not supported for your mobo/sys, by Gateway, then you are left
hoping that you can find drivers elsewere.
Assuming it is onboard sound then try that suppliers site

Of course installing a none supported o/s will likely ahve invalidated any
warranty/support from gateway.
The other option is point out to the user that Vista is the new windows and
as such they should get used to it.

For the future, note that you should never change from an operating system
that comes with a computer to some other one without *first* ascertaining
that all the drivers you need are available.

You may be out of luck; it is not automatically true that every driver you
may want exists. But contact Gateway and ask them. Alternatively, you may be
able to get the driver you need from the web site of the sound card
manufacturer.
