I am taking online classes and the classrooms are actually newsgroups. I got
everything loaded and it worked fine, but then I restarted my computer. Now
when I click on "News" it opens a window with a bunch of files in it. What's
going on and how can I fix it? My computer is brand new (just got it
yesterday!) and the first thing I did was update everything. Can anyone help
me? Thanks!

This isn't school. This News Group is NOT intended to help you learn about News Groups and
using web based interfaces to a News Groups is NOT the way to learn anyway. This News Group
is about supporting the WinXP OS. You can access News Groups with *ANY* OS.

The ONLY lesson I will give you is the proper URL to use this News Group...

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

The above URL will take your default News Client (most likely Outlook Express) the the
Microsoft News Server; msnews.microsoft.com to this News Group;
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

I don't have any idea what you are talking about. I suggest you contact
your instructor or administrator for assistance.

This newsgroup is only for discussing the Windows XP operating system.
I have no idea if your problem is related to that or not.

You clicked on "News". And that is supposed to tell us WHAT it is that
*you* clicked on? Could be a shortcut. Could be a menu item in some
program. Could be ... too many possibilities to waste guessing about.
If the school requires you to use newsgroups for class "discussions"
then it's a good bet that a requirement of the class was familiarity
with Windows to a sufficient degree so that you know what you are doing.

No, my school has their own newgroups and I have added them, but now my
"News" button in outlook won't work. It only brings up the window with all
the files in it.

I'm refering to an outlook problem that I am having. I cannot access my
newsgroups in Outlook because when I click the "News" button, a window with
just files comes up.

So why are you wasting time to load Outlook only to then load Outlook
Express? Outlook doesn't support NNTP (network news transfer protocol).
Outlook Express, and that is why Outlook loads Outlook Express to do
newsgroups. So just open Outlook Express since that is where you will
be doing newsgroups, anyway.

I don't think I have outlook express. I'm sorry. I didn't know that Outlook
didn't support that. Where would I be able to access Outlook Express if I
have it? Thanks!

Outlook Express is part of Windows XP. You should have a shortcut on your
desktop that points to:
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe
