Newbie help with Frontpage

Our website was designed by a company that is no longer in business and
we need to make changes to the site. The website is hosted by a
different company. The hosting company has provided us with a login so
that we can now use FP 2002 to Open Web and make changes to the
website. Our ultimate goal is change the hosting company to Network
Solutions and to administer the website using Frontpage.

So how do we save the website files in FP from our current web host so
that we can then make the changes and upload the site to Network
Solutions? Or should we transfer the site to Network Solutions first,
then make the changes in FP?

Either way, shouldn't there be a way to save the website files for
safekeeping until we make the changes we want?

Thanks

Does Network Solutions support the FP Extensions? If not then you will not be able to manage the
site directly on the live/remote server.

Yes, Network Solutions supports FP extensions. How do we get our
website downloaded into Frontpage, whether it's before or after the
hosting change?
If I open FP and go to Import, I can download the site without being
prompted for login which I think is strange??? So anyone can download a
site but just can't upload it??

If I open up FP and go to Open Web, I am prompted for login. So I login
and open the website. I can then make a change and Save back to the
web. However I wanted to download and save the website locally for
safekeeping, then make all the changes and upload to Network Solutions.

Thanks

Ok, once you have the site open in FP, then use File Menu | Publish Site and enter c:\mywebsite as
the remote location to publish to.

c:\mywebsite = can be any folder under the c drive as long as it doesn't have any spaces or
punctuation in the folder name.

As an added note....... from my experience at least when changing web hosts
you will need the files from your current web site (on your local hard
drive) to publish to your new web host. I've not seen any host that will
transfer the files for you.
