New wierd error message - error message.jpg (0/1)

I have recently started to get a new error message in Windows XP Pro SP2. It
occurs if I click Start->All Programs->highlight any folder in the start
menu->right click and select either "open" or "explore". A box pops up labeled
"error" and contains the message "called by app". If I click OK, the
appropriate explorer window opens. If I perform the same operation from an
explorer window, for example C:\Docs and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs,
right click on the folder and select "open" or "explore", the error does not
occur. This only started happening within the last week. A system restore does
not fix the problem. I have googled it, and have found only one other similar
posting with no solution.

I am attaching a small .jpg file to show the error message.

Does anyone know what this means?

What is the Report on the problem in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Thank you for your reply. I should have mentioned in my original post that this
popup error message is not accompanied by any warnings or errors in Event
Viewer!

I'm stumped.

Are the settings in Event Viewer allowing for the maximum recording of
Error Reports?

Open Event Viewer, right click, select Properties, Filter tab. Also
select Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced, Error Reporting, Enable
Error Reporting and confirm All Programs without exceptions has been
selected.

Not something I have used but have you looked in the Dr Watson log?
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

Gerry:

Again, thank you for your reply. Event viewer is already set to allow maximum
recording, and no filters are in effect. Same with error reporting. As for my
Dr. Watson log, it is 32 MB, with no dates on the entries. I'm afraid the
information in it is useless to me.

Does anyone out there know what this "called by app" error message means, or
what causes it?
