New received messages turn from unread to read after several minut

Hi,
I have an Outlook 2003 system that automatically turns received messages
from unread to read without any user interaction. A different system at the
same office is configured identically and works as expected, as messages that
arrive stay unread until the user opens them.

What could cause Outlook 2003 to change the messages from unread to read?
There are no rules configured on that client.

Tools>Options>Other>Reading Pane. Uncheck "Mark items as read when viewed
in the Reading Pane".

done, problem still persists

Then you have an add-in like an anti-virus or -spam scanner (or some other
app) that's processing your mail and marking them read.

system has TrendMicro OfficeScan and Windows Defender. That is all. It does
have the Blackberry client software on it. Could that be an issue?

How do you change it.

Change what? If it is a Blackberry software issue, you'll have to speak
with the vendor of that software. Try disabling or uninstalling the
Blackberry software temporarily to see if the problem goes away. If it
does, then you've found the culprit.
