New message notification

When using Outlook 2003, I notice that I only receive notification of a new
message when it arrives in the inbox.

If I have rules in place to direct the new message to a specific folder, no
"new message" notification is received.

Recent versions of Outlook include an "unread mail" folder so that you can
see at a glance any mail that has not been marked as read, regardless of
which folder it is in. Would it not be better if the "new message"
notification was derived from messages appearing in the "unread mail"
folder?

It would be great if the "unread mail" folder and the above mentioned "new
message" notification could be adopted for PocketPC and Smartphone platforms
too.

I use Exchange ActiveSync with Exchange Rules and I am always having to
trawl through the folder view on my Samrtphone to check if I have any new
messages.

For the Pocket PC/Smartphone part of the question ask in a Windows Mobiles
newsgroup.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have set up the new rule but there is no "TimeOn"
key in my registry. Any ideas where I can go from here? Your help is much
appreciated.

Can't you add a line to your rule to also notify you? I do that for many
clients who want to move an email and know that it arrived.
