New Mail Envelope in Notification Area

I've set up a rule to put tracking receipts into a folder automatically, and
the rule also marks them as read.

Now I get the new mail envelope showing up in the notification area when I
receive one of these emails, but I have no unread mail messages as it has
been marked as read by the rule I set up.

If possible, I would like the envelope not to show up when receive tracking
receipts, but only to show up for new unread mail.

Is this possible?

The new-mail icon is triggered upon receiving new mail and BEFORE any
rules are exercised. So nothing you do in the rules will eliminate
the on-receive-new-mail trigger for the tray icon. The only thing you
can do is disable the option to display the tray icon and instead add
a clause to each rule and/or add a catch-all rule at the end of the
list that opens the new-mail *alert* windows (which shows up on the
desktop and not as a tray icon).

While VanguardLH has addressed your main question, you may find that by
moving the tracking messages to some other folder, your tracking tab in Sent
Items will be affected and you might not be able to tell who's responded.
