New M/B but no audio on fresh load of XP Pro

Problem:
Win XP SP2 - I had an ASUS motherboard (P5S800-VM) short out on me so I had
to replace it. I installed an ASUS P5VD2-MX SE and everything works fine
except the audio. This board has integrated audio but I was not able to
uninstall the old audio drivers from the previous board prior to it shorting
out. Per Device Manager, the audio drivers are working properly yet in Control
Panel - Sound & Audio Devices, it lists "no audio device". I am not offered
the option of uninstalling the drivers via device manager nor will the m/b
accept my loading the new drivers that came with the new m/b disk. I am at
a loss on what to do here.

Thanks DL and I tried that website but I had no luck.

Did you remember to enable the onboard sound in the BIOS?
On most of the boards I've seen, this was turned off by default.
By the way, Microsoft did a pretty good job of hiding the "Repair
Installation"
option and I'm not surprised you were unable to find it. Fred Langa had a
step-by-step
tutorial on his website to take you through the process. I found it very
helpful.
