New items in public folders

I'm using: Outlook 2003/Windows XP Pro SP2/SBS2003/Exchange

Using public folders for new emails, faxes is fine but new 'unread' items
are not shown in the same way as in local folders (IE folder name in bold
with number of unread items in square brackets). This means that we have to
keep opening folders to see whether anything's arrived.

Surely such a basic and important feature can't have been overlooked. How
does Exchange provide an indication to users of new items in public folders?

Sounds like you need to add the folder to the Public Folders\Favorites hierarchy.

Hi Sue.

How nice to hear from you again!

The folders I'm referring to have been created in:

Public Folders\All Public Folders

Favorites is right alongside in:

Public Folders\Favorites

Is this what you meant? Should unread items in these folders show up in the
same way as in a local folder?

I just tested it and it definitely doesn't.

If you drag the folder to PF Favorites, the copy in Favorites should track read/unread for you.

So it does!

Excellent!

I assume this is not a duplicate of the original I've created, but a 'short
cut' or link to the original. At least it appears to work that way so I can
leave the original folder hierarchy intact.

Problem is it doesn't seem to work properly. There are times when I can see
unread items in the folder yet the folder name isn't in bold with the
number of unread items shown in brackets beside it. I guess this is
something to do with multiple users accessing the same items in the same
folders.

I'll have a play see how I get on.

Hi Sue.

I sent a 'Reply to Group' on 05/07 to this (and also to my other post about
templates), but I can't see them in the thread despite refreshing the view.

They are in the Sent Items folder and your last post has the 'replied to'
icon next to it.

Any idea where they've gone?

I'm using Outlook Newsreader.

Sorry, I have no way of knowing what news server you're connecting to. There is, of course, no Outlook newsreader, only Outlook Express, and I'm no expert in troubleshooting it.

Maybe you should repost your replies?
