To all I ask....Ever since sp2 came out my computer just does not like it for
some reason...It has been installed and removed several times and I am to the
point of insanity so this is what I done..I did some research ,learned how
and completed a slipstreamed copy of a xpsp2 cd so I can (1) install a larger
drive and xp will recognize the full 160 gig and (2) Start fresh with sp2
and then add my programs and docs to it rather than the opposite as I feel
this may be where the problem lies...

My main question is Will I have to reinstall all my motherboard drivers ??
and then install all my apps as well as antivirus and firewall security
software ..I really do not want to have to keep doing this so I need to get
this right.... I greatly appreciate any help you can give me and as always we
would be lost without the mvp's.......Drew

Uninstall & reinstall of SP2 is really a major problem, simply 1 uninstall of
SP2 to SP1 causes instability in xp...Simply slipstreaming SP2 into the xp cd
wont give any shortcuts to a new hd installation (10 min or so),all else
still
needs reinstall. You can/could run XCOPY.Simply set the new hd as slave on
the same IDE cable to C: Format the new hd,once thru,go to run, type:
XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/r Agree to all in the DOS window, once its thru,C:
is now on new hd,new hd being D: If asigned diffrent letter, then use that
letter..

Drew,

I agree with your plan. I would save all of the personal data to CD, or
other removable device. Then wipe the hard drive with whatever method you
choose. Then boot to your new CD. Depending on the age of your hardware XP
SP2 will already recognize many if not most of your components. It is
possible that you will have to manually install a few of the drivers, but
the end results will be worth it. Yes, done properly you will have to
reinstall everything, along with any patches that yo haven't sliped into
your XP SP2 CD.

Yes you will / should install drivers from hw manu, and not rely on default
win drivers.
You should also NOT use winupdate for drivers.
And of course you will have to reinstall all apps
