Reinstall of Windows XP Pro requires SP2 install CD of some sort

Hello,

I'm reinstalling Windows XP Professional and I'm having a big problem this
time around. The install keeps asking me to insert as SP2 CD and I can't
figure out if there's a way to get a copy from the Microsoft Website. I saw
some info for SP3 but I don't know if I can download that and it instead. If
I can, how do I download it and burn it to a CD in a format that the
installer is going to recognize?
This is for my desktop--luckily my laptop is still working ok.

Many thanks,

Hondo

How are you performing the reinstall? Where in the process are you getting
the message? What is the exact wording of the message?

I am using the Windows XP Pro install disk (purchased).
I am getting the request for SP2 files during the install process, with
approximately 39 minutes to completion. The request says:
"Please install the compact disk labeled 'Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 2 CD' into your CD-ROM drive (E:) and then click ok.
You can also click ok if you want files to be copied from an alternate
location, such as a floppy disk."

Do this, if you can. Download XP SP3, slipstream with the original XP CD,
create an ISO and burn a new XP w/SP3 CD. An aid in the slipstreaming
process is the program AutoStreamer - can be found using Google and
downloaded, it's free.

Thanks Jerry,

I'll look into AutoStreamer and figure out how to use it as you suggest.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

You are doing a Repair install not a clean reformat. That is why that message

I also was struggling with this installation. The sequence of installing
cd's is:
Windows XP Media Center Edition Disc 1
Windows XP Media Center Edition Disc 2
Windows XP SP2 (This is where I insert Disc1 from the first step. It's
looking for the i386 folder which is on the Disc1 under the Components
folder.)
It locates the files and no more complaining.

Hope this helps.

Are you removing the XP install CD from the drive during the
install process? It sounds like you are installing XP Pro SP2,
and it's asking for the install CD to be re-inserted into the
drive.
