to all I ask..I recently purchased a 160gig hd to replace my existing 80 gig
that has windows sp1a on,,I have tried many times to install sp2 on it and
each time it has caused problems so to narrow the problem down this what I am
going to do..After researching the hell out of it I have discovered how and
made a slipstreamed xp sp2 cd and will start with that on my new
drive...First question is Do I need to reinstall all my motherboard drivers
?? and secondly what order should I install the rest (e-mail ,antivirus
,firewall games etc....also should I partition and what size ?? and lastly I
will be eventually reinstalling my 80 gig hd after wiping and
reformatting,What should I use to accomplish this ?? I appreciate all you
Magicians do for people like me.................Drew

If you are clean installing you need to install mobo chipset and other hw
drivers from manu sites, or cd's and NOT winupdate.
Install Firewall, update win, then AV update it
Lastly apps
Theirs no real need to partition unless you wish to create a partition
purely for holding data files, and size depends on amount of data.
Install your 'old' drive as slave and use disk management, delete partion,
create/format

Go here...

Lessen the spread of necessary research.
Be sure to slipstream SP2 and all the patches released after SP2 - save
yourself time.

1) When you install Windows XP - yes - you will need to update all the
hardware drivers you did not include in your slipstreamed/unattended Windows
XP installation CD (to install.)

2) Use the built in Windows XP Firewall, get yourself a free Antivirus
solution and use some passive immunization for spyware.

3) Partitioning is up to the individual. I don't.. I just buy drives.

4) Some sort of imaging application. Ghost, True Image, BootItNG, etc..
