Put together a brand new rig: M2N32 SLI MoBo, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
5000+ CPU, GeForce 8800 GTS Video card, 2 Gigs Corsair RAM, Western Digital
250 Gig Sata 300 HD. Partitioned and Installed from XP CD. (used default NTFS
file system.)
The MoBo recognizes a 250 Gig HD but
Windows only recognizes 136 Gigs. Also, when installing on board sound from
MoBo CD, I am told I must first install 'Microsoft HD Audio Hotfix' and the
'QFE fix' to enable USB 2.0. Unable to find reference to
these 'fixes' in a Microsoft.com search I downloaded SP2, thinking they might
be included in it. But, after SP2 installs and my computer restarts, I get a
DOS screen error message suggesting I restart with an earlier, known
configuration.
Can anyone explain any of this to me and suggest a
resolution? Thanks

Any hd over 140GB will only be recognized by xp as 140GB until SP1 or SP2
is installed,thats one reason some slipstream SP2 into a 2002 xp cd.If 2002
remains as is,then once the SP(s) are installed, simply format the "raw" disk
space, one could at that point use a 3rd party utility to add to existing
140GB.
As far as the sound goes, maybe a good time to add a sound card,on board
sound limits performance & alot of the software xp doesnt care for since
it hasnt passed WHQL (unsigned drivers)...
