New icon after Outlook 2007 update

Mateo

Hi!

After installing one of recently available updates I've noticed a new grey
icon displayed in the system tray every time I close Outlook.
The behaviour of this icon is a little strange.
When I close Outlook the icon remains in the system tray for about 5 minutes
and then disappears.
But if I reopen Outlook in the meantime and close it once again the icon
disappears almost immediately.
I am wondering if this is correct (?)
Thanks for your support!

Regards,
M. G.

This is correct behavior. Start with Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (or an
Outlook 2007 just before this to deal with performance enhancements)
included this new feature. It is supposed to help you get a visual clue
when 3rd party apps are still accessing Outlook data. It is supposed to
help you avoid the wonder message during the next open that the PST file
didn't close properly. :)

Hmmm.... But one thing is strange for me.
Normally when I close Outlook then the icon remains in the tray for a few
minutes. But if I open Outlook in the meantime (when this new icon is
visible) and the close it again - the icon disappears immediately.
And again if I open Outlook and close it the icon is visible for about 5
minutes until it disappears.
So seems it disappears immediately only if Outlook is open and then closed
when the icon is in the tray. Strange behaviour.

Short circuiting the shutdown by reopening loaded can load outlook with some
addins not loaded and the closure is similar to a crash. Then reopening and
closing needs to clean up, especially if you aren't allowing outlook plenty
of time to load before you close it again.
