Outlook 2003 downloads email after exiting.

After updating to IE8, Outlook 2003 doesn't close even though I click the X
and it "disappears". Icon remains in bottom right toolbar and email
continues to download. I can do a File/Exit a couple of times and then the
icon will disappear, meaning Outlook finally closed. What is making this
happen and is there any way to fix the problem? It only started happening
after updating to IE8. My Send/Receive settings are correct. Thanks!

I doubt IE8 has anything to do with this; it probably was just a
coincidence.

What exactly do you mean with using File-> Exit a couple of times? If
Outlook is closed and you only have the Outlook icon in the Notification
Area, you won't be having that option.

Anyway, Outlook shutdown issues are usually caused by 3rd party applications
that integrate with Outlook. In order to troubleshoot see;
