new handler using tweak ui

I was stupid enough to think i could remove the entrys left by musicmatch jb
manualy from the registry without causing malfunction in xp. i was lucky
enough that it only messed up my autoplay handler. what happened was that all
the handlers for cd's containing music files disapeared.
The strangest thing is that when i tried to use tweak ui to recreate them
some came back, like the open folder, play in wmp wich had disapeared.
Ok, done right? Wrong!
When i create winamp handler tweak ui (at least i think it tweak ui) creats
another handler. One with nothing on it, no description, only some strange
characters in the place of the description. and that handler only appears in
the drive>properties>autoplay menu. It doesn't appear in tweak ui nor in
CleanHandlers.
What's wrong?

only happens with winamp...

i didn't understand... it's too much information... i am too lame :)
i only want to resolve the problem of the unknown handler created when i
create the winamp one...

The Unwanted handler created has in the description some japonese characters
and: "use: <need provider>".

Hi,

Unfortunately, it's not that simple - you will probably need to correct all
of the autoplay functions. Had you considered trying to use System Restore
to get to a point before you created all this damage? Otherwise, I would
start with the autoplay restore tweak that is the first link under Kelly's
list of suggestions.

I already ran autofix.exe. it did find some sort of a problem but it had
nothing to do with my handlers problem (but autoplay is faster now, thanks).
I can't use system restore because till yesterday it had been damedged and
the problem is older than that...
I used the autoplay tweaks in kelly's corner - both enable autoplay and
restore autoplay icon - but now the wmplayer icon has diseppeared from
autoplay.
It's getting worst...

Hi faller,

See if it's listed here:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers\<HANDLER NAME>

Click Start/Run and type Regedit
Navigate to:
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers]

Is the handler listed there?

no... there isn't any sighn of a strange handler in
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers].
In fact the handlers i used to have prior to the problem are missing, like
nero, winamp, etc.

another information: i've discovered that almost every third party handlers
have disappeared.

I've discovered something... alone - thank you :)
When comparing the reg from my laptop (which is working fine) with the one
from the pc where the problem occurred, i've discovered there were some
entries missing. Under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:
WMPFile
WMPShell.HWEventHandler
WMPShell.HWEventHandler.1

Those must have been the ones i accidentaly errased.

There's only one problem left. This one was cause by the tweaks recomended
by you people, so i hope you can help me solve it.

The problem is: one on the tweaks cause the WMP icon to disappear from the
autoplay menu. I doesn't appear in "music files", "video files" nor "dvd
movie" media autoplay menus. In the "audio cd" menu it doen't appear on the
"play audio cd using Windows media player" handler. But on the same menu it
appear on the "copy music from cd using WMP" handler. And it apperas also in
the "empty media" menu.

Never mind... i've solven it. the tweak which messed things up was the
"restore autoplay icon" tweak from Kelly's corner. Why? Because my windows is
in portuguese - i am portuguese from portugal in case you haven't noticed.
The tweak changed the paths to english - so "c:\\programas" was transformed
in "c:\\program files".

Kelly: please put a warning in your corner to the non english version users
not to use your tweaks indiscriminately.

So i think everything is good. If it's not i'll be back.

Thanks anyway.
