new cd-rom drive

I'm having issues. First, when I tried to burn a CD using Nero, my PC
rebooted itself. After having that happen a handful of times, now my PC
doesn't recognize the CD drive at all. HELP!

Left out some (a lot) of information.

- Windows XP "what" Edition?
- Service Pack level?
- Latest patches?
- Latest hardware drivers for motherboard/chipset?
- What version of Nero?
- Does the Windows XP built-in burning work properly?
- What brand/model of CD/DVD drive?
- Is the CD/DVD drive recognized in the system BIOS (assuiming it is an
internal drive)?
- Is there any firmware available for the drive?
- Is there anything in Device Manager?
