Dvd recognized as cd

I have windows xp sp2. I use regularly a dvd drive without any problems
until I inserted a small 3.5" dvd media. Upon its insertion to the drive,
its recognized as cd and I can't use the wizard to burn files incrementally
as I would do with cd wizard(though it does burn with nero).
Can someone advise please?

You really can't compare Windows' very basic disk burning utility with
something as comprehensive as Nero. Windows XP does not natively
recognize small DVD disks. Third-party burning software usually can.

Thanks Mr. Grey,
Can yoy note one or two examples of one example or two of such third-party
burning software?

Nero and Roxio's programs can recognize small DVDs, but with them you're
getting (and paying for) a huge multimedia suite. There are no doubt
less expensive and even free burning utilities that you will find with a
web search.

Thanks Mr. Foldes and Mr. Grey,
Does any of the mentioned programs support also a wizard that can burn files
on the fly(as does the famous wizard with cd's)?

The answer to your question is yes, but...

So-called packet writing software makes your optical drive work as if it
were a hard drive, so you can, for example, burn files on the fly.
However, packet writing software has fallen out of favor, because it
does not close the disk properly. As a result, there is no guarantee
that you will be able to read the DVD in any other drive or with any
other software.
