new box transfer files

I would like to know if there is a way to transfer files
from my old compaq with 98se to my soon to be new compaq
with xp. I have some files and programs I would like to
keep. I dont have a cd burner on the old box. any
sugestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If the original PC has USB, go to BestBuy and get a USB
pocket drive. They come in sizes from 64Megabytes up to
1.0 Gigabyte.You plug it in, Windows sees it as a physical
drive with a Driver letter. You copy your files to it. Take it
to the new PC plug in and copy. Prices start at around $30
and it can be used for other purposes.
