New AGP VIDEO CARD Install

F

Fred

Hi,

I have integrated video on my Win XP Home PC that uses "shared" memory.

I just ordered a new ATI, AGP video card and plan to install it as I do
have an AGP slot on the MB.

Does anyone have suggestions for installing the new card?

Do I remove the on board video drivers using Control Panel Add/Remove
programs FIRST?
When do I change the "shared" settings in the BIOS for old video?
Do I install the NEW card First?

Thanks, Fred

1.)Remove the old drives and controle pannel
2.)Reboot computer and enter bios
3.)Change primary video device to agp or disable onboard video
4.)Save bois settings, Shutdown computer and install card
5.)Turn on computer and Install drivers.

I would do the physical installation of the card after 1: power down at
that point, install the card, then boot and use the BIOS set up to
disable the inbuilt video and enable the AGP (if needed), so you are
switching to something that is already there. Then the boot up to XP
can use the basic VGA of the card's BIOS and run well enough to install
the new card's drivers

Thanks, Alex and Josh -

I removed the OLD video card drivers using Add/Remove Progs, then shutdown.
Installed the NEW card and rebooted to the BIOS Setup.
-- Found that the AGP setting was on AUTO meaning it would disable the
onboard as soon as an AGP card was found - so didn't need to do anything
there.
System powered up, found new HW, told it DO NOT SEARCH
Inserted the ATI CD and it ran its installer

Seems to be running just fine - Thanks again, Fred
