Networking in Windows XP

I have P43.20GHZ 1.5GB Ram on Asus P4P800SE Motherboard, Marvell Yukon
88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Ethernet adapter.I have 1 Mpbs Modem from rogers and it
is connected to a Linksys WRT54GS Router, In my network connections link i
see only Local Connection & 1394 Connection, when i restart my computer, my
computer reads my router and puts a Gateway Connection in my Network
Connection Link.Within 30 mins. or so my Gateway Dissappears, and i lose
connection. CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE. THANKS

What added functionality does the Gateway Connection provide that is
not also available using the "Local Connection"?
