Stuck on "acquiring network address".

Kenny

Occasionally losing connection, icon in System Tray with yellow exclamation
mark and "limited or no connectivity". LED's on router indicating all OK.

Rebooting 3Com wireless ADSL modem/router it gets stuck at "acquiring
network address".

Rebooting PC ususlly gets it working OK.

Latest firmware on modem/router and latest driver on onboard Marvell Yukon
ethernet adapter.

Have Googled the problem but no clear answers.
Using XP Pro/SP2 and problem is recent, it worked well for a long time
Any advice appreciated.

Kenny,

Can you provide a bit more detail?
# If rebooting the computer doesn't get it working OK, what do you do?
# What changes did you make just before it stopped working well? How long is "a
long time"? Any particular activity when losing connection? How often is
occasionally?

Thanks for the reply.
Rebooting the PC does get it working again, rebooting the router doesn't.
Seems to happen when the connection is idle for a while or perhaps when PC
is resumed from standby. No real pattern to it, can happen almost any time.
Have turned off power saving on the ethernet controller aand idle time set
to 20 mins in router configuration.
This is supposedly an always on connection but most of the time I have to
start OE, then Send and Receive, then wait for the not connected box to come
up and then click "try again". It has always been like that and I believed
it was my ISP doing that.
The posted problem is more recent, not sure exactly but I think it was when
I re-installed Windows and programs using a True Imasge backup.
