Networking and Master Browser

Jean Claude

Hi
I have installed a network between two computers with network cards and
crossover cable. NTL broadband is connected to 'main' computer. It was
working fine with Windows Server 2003. On re-installing XP professional
with sp2, I cannot access shared folder nor can I browse from the
'secondary' computer. I can ping the computers.

The browsing error is:
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer VBB
that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport
NetBT_Tcpip_{F991D918-FB7C-402E-AC79. The master browser is stopping or an
election is being forced.

Can anyone help me as I have tried so many different solutions and it is
still not working?

Regards

Google for "turn off Master Browser elections" or just turn off the
"Computer Browser" service.

As for not being able to connect - you need to turn off the firewall or
better yet - just open the correct ports for File and Printer sharing.. (The
built in Help and Support can help you with this, as well as searching on
Microsoft of Google.)
