Networking 98&XP

i have a pc with 98 on and another pc with xp on. i have tried endlessly to
network the two but it just isnt working. I need to know how to network the 2
and what protocols and clients i require.
please help.
by the way i need both 2 share a internet connection.

What hardware are you using to netwoek these systems together. Tell us what
you have and we can tell you how to do it.

On my 98 i have a normal network card(standard) and on my XP laptop i have a
built in network adapter.
I have had these networked before but I reinstalled 98 so i lost it all and
i cant remember how to get it back.
i also have broadband dsl i believe. Im tryna have the 98 as the host and xp
joining.

Ok, so you have a broadband modem. Is it connected to your desktop via
ethernet or USB? Does your desktop have two ethernet cards in it? If your
modem is ethernet you will need to purchase a second ethernet card for your
desktop or better a Hub or even better a Router.

my modem is usb. basically i just need info on what protocols need to be
installed on both computers so that network is up an runnin. u see ive had it
workin fine before, its just the protocols i need.
