I am trying to network my PC(win2k) and my laptop(win98)

I can access the laptop through the pc but when I attempt
to access the pc through the laptop it askes for a
password. I never set a password for the PC (or I don't
remember doing so) and don't know what to do to make the
connection.

Please help.

You need an ID and password for everything you do on Win2K, whether you know
that you set one or not. When Windows 2000 boots up, it is probably signing
in as "Administrator" for you automatically. The initial Administrator
password is ALWAYS chosen by the person who installed Windows. It might be
blank, try that. If not, create a login ID and password on Windows 2000 and
use that.

The way I did this was to create an account (user) on each machine that uses
the same login and password. Then when the win98 box tries to access the
win2k box, the login will be recognized. You can have a different account
actually logged in on the win2k box, but the account that the win98 box is
using has to exist on the user list of the win2k box.

The following link will help in showing you how to create a user account on the W2K
machine to allow authentication. You could also just enable the guest account on the
W2K machine which will allow users unauthenticated access, but that is only
recommended if ALL users are trusted and you have a firewall to protect your network
from the internet. --- Steve
