Network Printer Problems?

Jeff Waddell

I'm trying to print to a network printer via SMB (Epson 880), and am having
problems doing it. I believe it may have to do with the printer driver, but
I'm not sure.

I mounted the workgroup computer with the printer and double clicked on the
shared printer I want to use. When it told me a driver was not available on
the server and asked me for a driver, I selected the Epson 880. When I went
to print a test page, it wouldn't print.

I believe my issue has to do with the Epson driver because when I deleted it
and re-installed with the Generic text driver instead of the Epson, it would
print. Just not with formatting and color.

So, does anyone know what might be going on, and what I may be able to do to
fix it?

Thanks!

I'm not quite sure about your problem. But if you can print OK from the
server itself that is wire connected to the actual printer, all other
networked PCs using printer sharing should get the drivers from the server.
So you should ensure that whatver drivers are used to get the printer
working OK are installed on the server. All networked PCs will then use
these drivers.
