Network ID grayed out?

I have a new laptop and have been trying to get it to see the rest of my
network. I have the workgroup name and computer name already in the
appropriate fields, however the network ID button is grayed out. I thought if
I could click on that button the computer would see and join my network. Does
anyone know why the network ID button is grayed out?

Is this new machine running Windows Vista? What version?

What sort of a network are you wishing to join?
