I have this weired problem today. I was trying my Windows XP PRO machine to
join my newely created Domain Controller for the very first time. I found
this entire information "GRAYED OUT" when I clicked "Computer Name" Tab.

"To use the Network Identification Wizard to join a domain and create a
local user account, click Network ID". and yes, Network ID Button. I clicked
"CHANGE BUTTON" and again found Member of section "GRAYED OUT" The entire
BOX. "Workgroup Radio button was enable only.

This is really weired to me. I'm loged in as a Local Machine Administrator.

Please anyone help me ...I wil really appreciate

I tried to do this for other systems. You cannot do this with Media Center
UNLESS you chose to do this at the time of installation.

If you've bought a pre-installed system (e.g., Dell), this option is not
available.

There is a MS Support article on this.

Here are the steps from http://www.tss2000.nl/vbforum/showthread.php?t=50 :

DLL patching hero Rafael has found a great way to enable your MCE 2005
install to join Windows domains. Rafael, known for patching the now famous
uxtheme.dll to enable custom Windows XP msstyle themes has found a reg edit
in Windows XP Media Center 2005 to unlock the previously "greyed out" join
domain option. This method is pretty complex but confirmed to work.

This will allow you to leave and join domains within Windows Media Center
Edition 2005.

01 - Insert Windows XP CD.
02 - Start > Run > X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons
03 - (replace X: with the appropiate drive letter)
04 - Acknowledge prompt by clicking 'Yes'.
05 - Skip updating process by clicking 'Cancel' or by pressing 'Esc'
06 - After installation, acknowledge success msg. by clicking 'Ok'
07 - Start > Shutdown > Restart
08 - At boot menu, select 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console'
09 - Select proper installation to log onto (default: 1) and press 'Enter'
10 - (If prompted, enter Administrator password and press 'Enter')
11 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: 'cd system32\config'
12 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: 'copy SYSTEM C:\'
13 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: exit
14 - At boot menu, select 'Windows XP Media Center Edition'
15 - Start > Run > Type: 'regedit' and press enter
16 - Click on 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'.
17 - File > Load Hive...
18 - Browse and select C:\SYSTEM
19 - Specify key name 'BANANA' and click OK
20 - Expand: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > BANANA > WPA > MedCtrUpg
21 - On the right-hand side, double-click IsLegacyMCE value
22 - Change selected value to 1 and click Ok. (THAT IS NOT AN L!)
23 - Click on BANANA subkey (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE).
24 - File > Unload Hive. Confirm.
25 - Start > Shutdown > Restart
26 - At boot menu, select 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console'
27 - Select proper installation to log onto (default: 1) and press 'Enter'
28 - (If prompted, enter Administrator password and press 'Enter')
29 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: 'cd \'
30 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: 'copy SYSTEM
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM'
31 - (Yes, you want to overwrite - Go ahead and do it)
32 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: 'del SYSTEM'
33 - Type (without quotes) and press enter: 'exit'
34 - At boot menu, select 'Windows XP Media Center Edition'
35 - Join domain.

READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. There is a post dealing with your PC from Toshiba.

Need exact error. It sounds like Toshiba may have some Virus checking at
the BIOS level.
Look in your BIOS and see if there is any checking delaing with Boot Sector
or such.

I have yet to find out how to get into TOSHIBA BIOS, Hitting F2 Key give you
4 options Boot from Drive 1 , Drive 2 , Drive from CD or Network boot but
that all to it. No option to get into bios. They have RAID with their hard
drives on Qosmio.

I have gone through this procedure 15 times formatting my laptop 5 times,
tried several different options.

Onething different I did is this:
Did Clean Install, Didn't install Recovery Console.
Use Windows XP PRO CD , Because with Toshiba The CD is all IMAGES made by
GHOST so there are no regular windows directories You can't use that CD that
is only recovery CD.

Anyway, I put XP PRO CD BOOT FROM CD and choose OPTION "R" for Recovery
Console, It did give me Recovery Console and that problem I was having with
installed Recovery Console didn't Occur , I was so happy but but..
I followed the direction Copy the HIVE -- SYSTEM from Config Folder and Put
it into the ROOT Folder which C:\

Exit out
Now it won't boot at all and going into Blue screen and keep reeboting
itself..
this really makes me mad...
I have now installed Windows XP PRO for now but I am not giving up ..I got
to work on the SERVER 2003...I was wondering is there something outhere from
Microsoft that I can install and Create an instance of Microsoft Media Center
editon like VIRTUAL PC ..I mean A Layer of XP MEDIA CENTER running over XP
PRO but don't actually have to install the whole XP MEDIA CENTER EDITION....?
