Network files opening as Read Only

Has anybody managed to get around the "Network files
opening as Read Only issue that appears with XP SP1? The
hot fix mentioned in 328170 involves contacting MS PSS,
has anyone been charged for this hot fix?
 
Hi,

There are no charges for hotfixes as long as you request no other support.
But, to obtain the hotfix you must do as the article states and contact MS
support.
