"network cable unplugged" and cpu use spikes

B

Hi guys -- I've got a new Win XP Shuttle XPC using the
nVidia nForce2 chipset with Realtek LAN. Anytime I have
my LAN ethernet cable plugged in, cpu usage has regular
spikes every couple of seconds (0 to 60% usage, up and
down) during which the mouse freezes briefly at every
spike, making using the computer impossible. Also, the
network doesn't work at all, and I get a "network cable
unplugged" warning which pops up nonstop, consistent with
the cpu spikes, even if I close the popup bubble. All my
TCP/IP settings are correct, using an assigned IP
address. Any ideas what's going on?

Hello,

I'm experiencing ethernet troubles with a Win XP Home
Edition / XPC Shuttle m/n : SN41G2.

Cannot get the ethernet to work, at all.

The ethernet chip provided onboard is supposed to be a
Realtek LAN, however it has been recognized as a '1394
Ethernet'.

Under which name is your Ethernet identified in your
system?

Thanks for your help.
