Network Address Aquiring.

Hi All,

I use two PC's a desktop and a Laptop. Both are connected to a PPPoE
Broadband connection. The desktop uses Windows XP Home SP2, and the Laptop
uses Windows XP Professional SP2.

Is there any difference between the two OS's in terms of network
connectivity. When I connect the laptop to the ADSL modem, the process of
aquring the network address happens very quickly, whereas, on the desktop the
process to obtain a Network Address takes more than 40 seconds. Also does
Internet security suites like Norten Internet Security or McAfee Security
Center affect or delay the process for aquiring network address on the
Desktop.

Any help or suggestions would be appriciated.

Thanks in advance

Vinay

Both XP Home and XP Pro have the same TCP/IP stack so they should behave the
same if all other conditions are the same. The issue you're seeing could be
caused by add-on software, or by one NIC having better drivers than the
other, or that one's locked for speed/duplex and the other is
autonegotiating, or ...

There are many reasons for such a delay - if the card works, I say leave it
alone. Picking at it will only make it worse. ;-)
