Net meeting and remote desktop

I have a windows xp pro pc connected to the internet
through a Linksys router. I am running an application on
my pc that I would like to demonstrate to a user on the
other side of my router. I have tested NetMeeting,
unsuccessfully. I put NetMeeting in Host mode, but the
person on the outside can't make a connection. Could it
be I haven't opened the right ports on my router to my XP
Pro PC IP address? What ports need to be directed to my
pc ip address in order for me to host a netmeeting.
Would there be another NetMeeting configuration I am
missing. I'm not sure what "directory" is all about or
the NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Option ... does it
need to be enabled through NetMeeting?

Or should I do this online demo via remote desktop. if
the person comes in through remote desktop, do I still
have control or do they have control. And are there
specific router ports that need to be opened for remote
desktop?

Thanks

NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS), which is *NOT* the same as XP Remote Desktop, uses TCP Port
1503. You need to forward that to the private LAN IP of the PC you are running the software on. The
remote user calls using the public IP of the router. Look at this KB article for help with RDS...

Don't use a directory server to call. Use the public IP of the router...

With Remote Desktop you do *NOT* have control and in fact you are logged out of the session.

If the remote user also has an XP box (Pro or Home) you might look at Remote Assistance so you can
both see the desktop while you demonstrate the software...

Thanks for these suggestions. I think I have everything
set up right. The NetMeeting icon in my tool tray
says "NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing." I have
instructed the caller according to the article
instructions you referred me to below. The caller is
unable to make a connection. Any ideas? Should Port
1503 be the only port open and directed to my PC? I
currently have others open and directed to my PC also.
My real meeting is at 10am this morning, so if you have
any ideas, would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I ran another test and you may want to also open TCP Port 1720 up on the router. At best, at least
testing over my home LAN with a ICF on one of my XP Pro boxes, RDS is really acting flakey with the
issue of what ports to open or not open. Before, when I used RDS to access Windows Me boxes, all I
needed was TCP Port 1503...

Success at last. But, not as I would have expected.
Wondering. When my outside tester finally got in, he had
control of my desk top ... I had no control. Is this how
it is suppose to work?

Then, we tried the following. I unchecked the the
box "enable remote desktop sharing on this computer."
Then I went to Call and clicked "Host Meeting." Then I
went to Tools and selected the applications I wanted to
share. The only port I had open was your first
suggestion of port 1503.
