default browser. but, i want explorer to by my default
browser. learned the following in the help menu:

"To reset Internet Explorer settings
If you installed another Web browser after installing
Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, some of your
Internet Explorer settings may have changed. You can
reset your Internet Explorer settings to their original
defaults, including your home page and search pages, and
choice of default browser, without changing your other
browser's settings.
1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Programs tab.
3. Click the Reset Web Settings button. "

however, when i go to the programs tab, the "reset web
settings" button is in grey, not black, and i cannot
select it. can anyone help out?

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Programs, put a check by
"Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser"
Close IE and when you open it again, you should be asked if you want to make
IE your default browser.

There's an additional tip at http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/netscape.htm
that should help if Netscape refuses to give up it's default browser
status.

In continuation to Don's advice:

Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser -
option does not work:
