Need to replace ntoskrnl.exe

Hi Team,

I just tried to boot into safe mode and was unable to as the ntoskrnl.exe
file was apparently missing. So I need to replace this file. Can I boot up
on my XP install disk and use the repair option or can I manually replace
the file myself? And if so how do I do that? Which option is best/better?

Regards,
Greg

If you have a regular CD Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot
the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair.
Assume any password requested is blank, and TAB over.

Then: If you have *not* installed a service pack, and assuming the CD is
D:, which it probably is, give
COPY D:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe

If you Have installed a service pack, first try the version with that
COPY C:\Windows\ServicePackFIles\\i386\ntoskrnl.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe

(all one line,. will wrap at a space in the middle)
