PC froze and now won't restart. Tried starting is safe mode and last good
config but keeps failing to blue screen. Have had message File Missing
"<windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe"
can access system restore but believe this will delete all files as supplied
CD says so.
Need to keep work files.

Help!!!!!

You can do a System Repair, and then re-apply all patches, upgrades and
servicepacks for Windows.
You do not lose you Personal Data or third-party apps installed.

I don't get this option with the disk I have. It goes straight into recovery
and says deleting files?????

What does the disk label say. It doesn't sound like you have a WIndows XP
Installation disk but a PC Manufacturer's Recovery disk.

Then the answer to your original question is probably ... yes. It will
remove everything on that Drive. You may check that PC Manufacturer's
Support forum and see what exactly that Recover Disk does do.
