I (with XP pro) want to do a remote desktop thru my Netgear router to a
friend in another city that has (XP home) and a Linksys router. we both have
cable broadband.

I assume I need to open some router ports OR do I ??

I need help ----- that's for sure.

You can't. The Remote Desktop host must run WinXP Professional.

He installed the remote ***client***. If you want to run an RDP
session on his machine then he needs the remote ***server***,
which is not available on WinXP Home.

Remet Desktop host mode does not exist in XP Home and is not available for
download.

If you need to to remote support on your friend's XP Home, look at UltraVNC.
This will work on XP Home.

Also, your friend will need to set up "port forwarding" on his Linksys router,
so that any VNC requests be set to his PC.
